40 Facts About Sleep That You Might Not Know.

40 FACTS ABOUT SLEEP YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW…
(OR WERE TOO TIRED TO THINK ABOUT)

The record for the longest period without sleep is 18 days, 21 hours, 40 minutes during a rocking chair marathon. The record holder reported hallucinations, paranoia, blurred vision, slurred speech and memory and concentration lapses.

It’s impossible to tell if someone is really awake without close medical supervision. People can take cat naps with their eyes open without even being aware of it.

Anything less than five minutes to fall asleep at night means you’re sleep deprived. The ideal is between 10 and 15 minutes, meaning you’re still tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy by day.

A new baby typically results in 400-750 hours lost sleep for parents in the first year

One of the best predictors of insomnia later in life is the development of bad habits from having sleep disturbed by young children.

Riddle

A man stands on top a cliff, 400 meter high. he has a rope 300 meter
long, and there are two rings fixed in the cliff, one where he stands
and the other at the middle (200 meters) . how can he climb down the
cliff ?

there is (almost) no “aha factor”, and the solutions is feasable
without “tricks” like tying the rope so it releases on a pull or things
like that. the solution is realistic enough to try yourself (that is,
if you dare climb a rope down 400 meters…)

I figured out the answer.  Can you?

Rope Riddle Answer

The answer to the rope riddle is quite simple if you think about it.
What you do is you light both ends of rope “A”, and one end of rope “B” right at the beginning.  You then wait for all of rope “A” to burn up, which signifies that exactly 30 minutes have passed.

At the moment that rope “A” is completely burned up, light the other end of rope “B”.  By doing this, you are allowing rope “B” to burn for only 15 more minutes, because it is burning twice as fast because the fire is coming from both ends.  Also, rope “B” had already burned for 30 minutes as we did in the previous steps, so we know that it only has 15 to go until it is used up because you lit both ends.

30+15=45

And there it is.

Watch the whole thing

This guy is amazing at editing a video. He claimes he can’t play piano or drums. Watch the whole thing to really get it.

Riddle

Here’s a little riddle for you:

You have two ropes.

They each burn up completely in one hour.  They do not burn at an even rate throughout.  It may take 50 minutes to burn up half of one rope, and 10 minutes to burn up the other half of that same rope.

Using only a lighter and these two ropes, and lighting both ropes at the same time, how can you tell when 45 minutes has lapsed?

The answer is clever. Check back soon to see it.
